If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. If no power, possible relay/wiring to starter motor. I cleaned the oil out, then replaced the plugs.

Did a quick service to look around and found oil in the spark plugs. Mk5 vw jetta, sportwagen, and audi a3 tdi forum. However, if it sits a few more minutes, we are back to having releasing the key to fire the car.
